Dr. Harryette B. Ehrhardt Library celebrated by former First Lady Laura Bush and community

The full light of the sun and the Oak Cliff Nature Preserve accompanied Dr. Harryette  B. Ehrhardt in welcoming guests to the library naming ceremony at Zan Wesley Holmes, Jr. Middle School.

Principal Barbara Moham, excited students, teachers and staff also greeted parents, the Ehrhardt family, friends and community at this Saturday morning dedication ceremony for the Dr. Harryette B. Ehrhardt Library.

Former First Lady Laura Bush, who before becoming a famous librarian, was once a student in a Southern Methodist University children’s literature course taught by her former teacher, Dr. Harryette Ehrhardt. Mrs. Bush told how Professor Ehrhardt instilled in her a love for literature and children’s books.

Students served as helpers, presenters and performers, including:  the Kimball High School JROTC Color Guard -- Maj. Johnny Manson, Director; The ZWH Middle School Musical Ensemble and Lionettes Dance Team – Yolanda Burton, Director; and student Shantee Alexander who  introduced Mrs. Bush.

Librarian Marie Irwin unveiled a beautiful, framed Harryette Ehrhardt portrait in tribute and appreciation.

Assistant Superintendent Mauricio Dominguez, present with Executive Director Tracie Brown, expressed congratulations on behalf of Dallas ISD Administration.

We thank all who helped make the library naming ceremony an occasion to remember on a special day in Dallas ISD.
