Students wore blue-robes and big smiles early Saturday morning they lined up at Ellis Davis Field House. Promptly at 9:00 a.m. the first note of “Pomp and Circumstance" signaled the start of the 44th Annual Commencement Exercises for David W. Carter High School.
What a beautiful picture of the large number of family and friends filling bleacher seats to share the occasion and congratulate more than 225 proud graduates. Excitement was not contained.
Valedictorian Maria Garcia and salutatorian Jasmin Rivers recalled good times and friendships, making it known that this class will fondly remember high school days at Carter.
Ja’Shaelyn Carmichael, senior class president, represented students in acknowledging and recognizing teachers and staff for dedication, work and caring. During the last four years they developed a close bond, all determined to increase student performance. And they did.
Awarding diplomas to Carter graduates was the best start to my beautiful day. How blessed and grateful I am to have the opportunity to connect with them during this milestone!
Thanks to senior class coordinator Vera Henderson and the team of faculty and staff who assisted to make this an excellent graduation day.
Much appreciation to Principal Gail David Dupree for campus leadership and for four years of care and guidance given to these students.
My message to the graduates:
Keep passion in your heart.
Use the power in your hand.
Put knowledge in your head.
See and believe that you can!
Congratulations David W. Carter High School Class of 2011!
