Kimball Coach Carl Nelson |
In a Saturday game that is known as the Oak Cliff Super Bowl, David W. Carter and Justin F. Kimball High School football teams annually match skills to win the Coach James Jones Trophy.
The Kimball Knights celebrated a victory they have been seeking since 2002, as the Carter Cowboys prevailed for nine years. This year in the highly competitive game, both teams showed excellent sportsmanship and skills. With fierce determination, Kimball started and ended the football game strongly, claiming a 24- 14 win.
Friendly rivalry between these two supportive schools brings out the South Oak Cliff community of students, staff, parents and alumni in memory of the late, beloved Kimball Coach James Jones. As always, loving wife Alvanetta and the Jones family were big cheerleaders. The game is a tribute to Coach James Jones' love for students, athletes and participation in sports as preparation for life.
In addition to the exciting game, fans were impressed by the outstanding half-time performances of the Carter and Kimball bands. Both were great!
The precision performance of the 80 member Carter band confirmed exactly why they were Number One in the recent Grambling Battle of the Bands. Their First Place win provided the opportunity for them to perform recently for thousands of cheering fans at the Cotton Bowl. Congratulations and thanks to Band Director Chris Young and volunteers who instill discipline and focus by guiding and supporting the champion David W. Carter band.
The high-stepping Kimball Knights Band was also sharp and ready. They touched fans with a moving Breast Cancer Awareness tribute including majorette Troubadours who wore pink shirts and released pink and white balloons. Congratulations and thanks to Band Director Abe Williams and volunteers who help students learn and contribute to social consciousness and responsibility through the Justin F. Kimball marching band.
Congratulations and much appreciation to Kimball Coach Carl Nelson and assistants and Carter Coach Patrick Williams and assistants for teaching and caring about our student athletes. Thanks to Carter and Kimball High School Booster Clubs for all that you do for our students.
Principal Fred Davis is instructional leader at David W. Carter High School. The instructional leader at Justin F. Kimball is Principal Earl Jones.
Congratulations to the Kimball Knights and Carter Cowboys for your skills and good sportsmanship throughout the game. Remember, Coach James wants you to repeat in football and in life:
Always give the best that I have.
If I should get tired, I'll sit down and rest awhile ...
...get back up and fight some more.
Never Give Up!
Never Give up!
